The 140 meter suspension bridge was built in record time of six months. Now villagers can safely carry their produce to markets in Ranikor.

A group of people from 14 villages in South West Khasi Hills District under Ranikor C&RD Block came together to create little magic and history in the form of Langrin Rainbow Bridge on the Rilang river.

The bridge, whose construction started in May 2017, was completed on 5th October 2017. “It is truly a masterpiece of a creation considering the time frame and the fund allocation. The Government of India through MGNREGS has given a platform for each and every individual through the community to participate, deliberate and execute plans for a wholesome development,” said Shri F. B. Basan, BDO of Ranikor C&RD Block.

The bridge was constructed at a cost of around Rs 34.50 lakh under the rural employment Scheme. MGNREGA job card holders in these 14 villages donated their 20 days’ wages and materials for construction. The new bridge is stronger and higher than the old one.
